How to Use the MineMatch Geochemistry
Statistics Viewer
<These graphics are best
viewed on a 17 inch monitor, or larger.>
This web page has been designed to facilitate the comparative viewing of statistical plots, as illustrated in this diagram.
The
plot selection menus in the two leftside windows are exactly the same, and
independently control which graphic is displayed in the frames to their right.
They make it possible, for example, to select a nickel values histogram in the
top right frame for basaltic rocks, and a nickel values histogram for tonalites
in the bottom right frame.
Box and Whisker plots, which present approximately 32 lithology groups on each plot, may be selected by analytical method and element. Two plots (one below another) have to be viewed to see the data for all the lithology types which occur on the 1:250000 geology map of BC. To view the box and whisker plots for all the lithology groups at once, select the first 32 in the top frame, and the second 32 in the bottom frame.
Histograms have to be chosen first by analytical method and lithology group. Clicking on the desired lithology group will then bring up a series of histograms in the right browser frame, ordered alphabetically on element symbol. The frame's scroll-bar has to be used to bring the plot for the desired element into view. <As quite a number of plots have to be loaded by the browser in this operation, the histogram graphics may take some time to download over slow Internet connections.>
Scatter plots of duplicate analyses are available below the "Precision" heading, and may be selected first by analytical method and plotting scale. Plots are produced at both free (varying according to the maximum value in the population) and fixed scales - the latter to facilitate comparisons between analytical methods, and to avoid the effects of small numbers of high values on the plotting scale. Choice of the desired scale will cause all the plots for the chosen analytical method to appear in a series in the right browser frame. The series is ordered alphabetically on element symbol, and the frame's scroll bar has to be used to bring the plot for the desired element into view.
